I guess brown and black bears are everywhere in Alaska. When we were touring in a residential area, all the garbage cans (it was garbage day) were closed, and bungee cords were wrapped all around them.The garbage cans in downtown were all large metal cans. They all involved a semi-complex way of opening (or maybe it was only complex for me).

Interesting... How do you open it?
You reach your hand in a hole (scary) and pull on a knob.
Although, I always try to avoid touching garbage cans. I mean, I'll push open the can with the piece of garbage in my hand (so it's not hand to garbage can contact, it's piece of garbage to garbage can contact).
So reaching INSIDE something was kind-of gross.
