5. In 1977, British newspaper The Guardian published a seven-page supplement for the 10th anniversary of San Serriffe, a small republic located in the Indian Ocean consisting of several semicolon-shaped islands. A series of articles described the geography and culture of the two main islands, named Upper Caisse and Lower Caisse.


6. In 1992, US National Public Radio announced that Richard Nixon was running for president again. His new campaign slogan was, "I didn't do anything wrong, and I won't do it again." They even had clips of Nixon announcing his candidacy. Nixon's voice actually turned out to be that of impersonator Rich Little.


7. In 1998, a newsletter titled New Mexicans for Science and Reason carried an article that the state of Alabama had voted to change the value of pi from 3.14159 to the "Biblical value" of 3.0. I'm surprised my college professors didn't make a big deal about this one!


8. Burger King published a full-page advertisement in USA Today in 1998 announcing the introduction of the "Left-Handed Whopper," specially designed for the 32 million left-handed Americans. According to the advertisement, the new burger included the same ingredients as the original, but the condiments were rotated 180 degrees. Again - this is hilarious! Why don't I remember this?!?


9. Discover Magazine announced in 1995 that a highly respected biologist, Aprile Pazzo (Italian for April Fool), had discovered a new species in Antarctica: the hotheaded naked ice borer. The creatures were described as having bony plates on their heads that became burning hot, allowing the animals to bore through ice at high speed – a technique they used to hunt penguins.


10. Noted British astronomer Patrick Moore announced on the radio in 1976 that at 9:47 am, a once-in-a-lifetime astronomical event, in which Pluto would pass behind Jupiter, would cause a gravitational alignment that would reduce the Earth's gravity. Moore told listeners that if they jumped in the air at the exact moment of the planetary alignment, they would experience a floating sensation. (AFP) – From television revealing that spaghetti grows on trees to advertisements for the left-handed burger, the tradition of April Fool's Day stories in the media has a weird and wonderful history. Here are 10 of the top April Fool's Day pranks ever pulled off, as judged by the San Diego-based Museum of Hoaxes for their notoriety, absurdity, and number of people duped.


1. In 1957, a BBC television show announced that thanks to a mild winter and the virtual elimination of the spaghetti weevil, Swiss farmers were enjoying a bumper spaghetti crop. Footage of Swiss farmers pulling strands of spaghetti from trees prompted a barrage of calls from people wanting to know how to grow their own spaghetti at home.


2. In 1985, Sports Illustrated magazine published a story that a rookie baseball pitcher who could reportedly throw a ball at 270 kilometers per hour (168 miles per hour) was set to join the New York Mets. Finch was said to have mastered his skill in a Tibetan monastery.


3. Sweden in 1962 had only one television channel, which broadcast in black and white. The station's technical expert appeared on the news to announce that thanks to a newly developed technology, viewers could convert their existing sets to receive color pictures by pulling a nylon stocking over the screen.


4. In 1996, Taco Bell announced that it had bought Philadelphia's Liberty Bell, a historic symbol of American independence, from the federal government and was renaming it the Taco Liberty Bell. Then-White House press secretary Mike McCurry was asked about the sale and said the Lincoln Memorial in Washington had also been sold and was to be renamed the Ford Lincoln Mercury Memorial. Why don't I remember this? It sounds freaking hilarious!!!

I am 10 and my brother is 4. Both sporting some brand new Chicago Bears apparel! Notice my Bears socks underneath the stirrup pants.

Now - for some reason - it's my job to go find a curtain rod that will fit this huge thing!

ESPN the weekend

A couple weeks ago Jonathan and I went to ESPN the weekend at MGM Studios.

I wish they had set times for autographs, but they don't. All the athletes are just in motorcades, they do interviews and other apperances. They seem to sign for about 5 random people at random times.

Jonathan managed to get John Kruk's autograph.

I spent most of my time watching the motorcades.

I met the Robinsons

Jonathan and I went to MGM today to check out some new characters from the upcoming movie Meet the Robinsons.

This is Lewis and Wilbur Robinson.

This is the villian, Bowler Hat Guy. Where did they find somebody so skinny? He's actually wearing a leotard. *tee hee hee*

It was kind-of creepy to meet "characters" that look so much like real people.

77 days into the year 2007, and I have my first official sunburn. And this is no ordinary sunburn - it's really bad! I look so much like an tourist from the UK, it's not even funny.

I was sitting indian style on the lawn at the Cardinals vs. Braves game. From that position, only the insides of my legs are sunburned, my left ear is fried, and I have 2 red splotches on my face.

My aloe is buried somewhere in the spare bathroom. Since Jonathan's dad (I guess he's called my "father in law" now huh?) was visiting, I didn't want to tear up the bathroom looking for aloe. Jonathan says, "I have some aloe in our bathroom".

Burning and itching I look in the bathroom cabinet and find a HUGE thing of aloe. It was clear colored, felt really cool as I rubbed it on my leg, and it was very sticky.

As I sat still, waiting for my legs to dry and get less sticky so I could put my pants leg down, I read the aloe bottle ... and saw the words ... HAIR GELL!

No wonder it was so sticky!

edit: I think my friend Melanie summed it up best. Jonathan IM'ed her my story. Then Melanie IM'ed me, "I heard about your hair gel story. I was going to make fun of you for putting hair gel on your legs. But instead I'll make fun of Jonathan -- for using hair gel!"

Although, I must admit, he doesn't use it anymore. So we can't mock my husband.

My new job

I've been at my new job about a month now. Actually, it's just a temporary job. It ends sometime in June or July.

I work for a new business at Disney. It's an online registry, like Target or Crate & Barrell, for honeymoons! Instead of registering for a toaster or towels, you can register for O'hana or the MK tour.

Man, I wish this web site was around when I was going on a honeymoon! I could've registered for shore excursions and stuff.

The reason my job is only temporary is because this is a brand new thing. There are a couple of us temps, and they'll decide if they need us or not.

I still work in Celebration and the hours are 8:45am-5:15pm. At DVC I was number 91 on the senority ladder. Now I'm #1! I can have any days off I want. *faint*

I really miss all my friends at DVC. I worked there for 3.5 years. It's a lot different working with 4 people, as opposed to 150 people.

Greatest TV station ever!

I found a new TV station last week - Chiller!

It's a NBC / Universal channel that plays all horror movies / shows, all the time.

I can now re-watch all the Tales from the Crypt. I tape them every morning at 10am and 10:30am. They are faithful waiting for me when I get home from work.

One little egg

I found a little white egg on the front lawn the other day.

I thought to myself, "I haven't seen a bird's egg in Florida in a long, long time!" In Illinois we would always see blue robin's eggs and white other bird's eggs - sometimes with a baby bird inside. Ewwww!

As I'm tapping the egg w/ my foot to see if it's cracked open or not (it was!) and thinking about cute baby birds, Jonathan walks outside and says, "what are you doing with that snake egg?"

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Pirate/Princess Party

Thank you old job for giving me free tickets to the Pirate & Princess party at the Magic Kingdom.


Jonathan and I attended the party on 1/26/07 (my last day at DVC). It was freezing cold outside - but the party was still fun. The best thing about all the MK parties is the random characters that are roaming around.


To get in the pirate spirit, Jonathan and I are wearing our bandanas we got on our wedding cruise during DCL's Pirate party.


I also tried to stalk Kate, but to no avail.

Jackpot - I never thought I would ever see Cinderella's evil step mom and stepsisters. I'm bummed that the picture turned out fuzzy.

RIP - my cell phone

Jonathan and I signed up for a 'family plan'. This meant "goodbye my phone company (Sprint - you were good to me)" and "hello Verizon!"

Every 2 years Jonathan receives $100 from Verizon to upgrade phones. Lucky for us, they had RazR phones on sale for $50. Free phones for us!

I now have text messaging (which I will never use b/c I'm too cheap), a camera phone, camera video, internet access (which I'm not paying for), I think some music thing, and the most important thing ... RING TONES!!!

My old phone just rang. Now I have over 1000 ring tones to choose from. I spend a solid hour my first day playing with them.

I was hoping the Jurassic Park theme song would be cool, but it wasn't the Bum-bum, bum-bum song. It was the do-do doooooo part. Nuts.

But I found a winner - Bear Down, Chicago Bears!!! Awesome!!!

I will miss my old phone. I lovinly called it "my '80s phone". Actually I think it's from 1999. If you've ever seen the Arnold Schwartzeneger movie Collateral Damage (admit it - nobody's seen it but me), they use my old phone to trigger bombs.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Jonathan and I celebrated our first Valentine's Day as a married couple in style!

By 'style' I mean we did the same thing we do every Wednesday. Eat dinner and watch TV. Wednesday is such a great TV night!

I did cook a good sized meal, for my standards: salad, chicken parmessian and strawberry shortcake!

Jonathan 'surprized' me with a really cute card, 3 carnations and the movie Snakes on a Plane. I wasn't really surprized about the DVD, since he wrapped it and put it under the mini Christmas tree (yes - I still haven't taken it to the garage yet!!! I keep ignoring it. It's a mini tree anyway, with no decorations. You hardly even know it's there).

I got him exactly what he requested (which is typical gift giving with Jonathan). He got Boost (from the movie Cars) in rip-stick racer form.

It's a brand new year, so it's time for a new "Top 10 TV shows I TIVO". (that has a nice rhyming ring to it).

Actually, I don't actually own a TIVO, but you get the idea.

Who is Tom Wilson?

Let's play more guessing games (since the last one turned out really well!) ...

A couple weeks ago, Jonathan and I went to the Orlando Improv to see comedian Tom Wilson.

And I have red eye - what's the deal with that?!?

And no cheating and 'googling' his name. All you'll find is Tom Wilson - creater of Ziggy (not this guy).

edit: You are all correct! It is Biff from Back to the Future. He was soooooooooooooooooo funny! If you ever see him coming to a comedy club near your town, it's 100% worth it. He sings funny songs, plays the guitar and tells hilarious jokes!

The first 5 minutes of the performance he let all his Back to the Future stuff out - 'butthead', "hey McFly", etc ... b/c he knew that's all we wanted to hear. He even sang a song about all the annoying questions fans ask him, "What's Crispin Glover like // Was that real manure // etc ..." I can't stress it enough - he is freaking hilarious!!!

After the show I got my Back to the Future DVD signed, and Jonathan bought a stock photo of him from the movie.

Why did blogger change my font?

Can anybody name the TV show that inspired my blog's name? I'll give you a dollar. Go ...

Clue: It's from a TV show.

Clue: Ok, if Larelle didn't get it, I figure nobody will. It's from Futurama (the cartoon show that used to be on Fox.) If you've never seen it, buy the DVDs and watch them carefully. The show is hilarious and full of wit.

Random wedding junk

I'm running out of wedding stories to tell - heck, as Jonathan reminds me, today is our 2 week anniversary. We're officially an old married couple.

Here are some last photos from the wedding/cruise. After that, it's back to my regular old blogging ...

My tropical wedding bouquet. I've never been so attached to flowers before. I looked up "preserving wedding flowers" on diy.com, but they aren't drying very well. The roses still look ok, but the bigger flowers are wilted and brown and smell bad. I guess I'll have to throw them away.

Jonathan appears to be upset that Goofy is hitting on his woman.

Wedding Music

Even though it was just Jonathan and myself, we still did some of the traditional things at our 20 minute wedding ceremony/reception. Together we chose the bride's processional song, our recessional song, and our first dance.

Processional - Pacabe's (something) in Cannon D - more commonly known as "The Christmas Song". If you don't know what I'm talking about, you'd be surprised. You've probably heard this instrumental before, most likely during Christmas time on the radio

Recessional Song - Jonathan had the fantastic idea of using a poem song from the movie Nightmare Before Christmas. We saw the movie in a theater in 3D in October, heard the song, and though it would be perfect! It's the song at the end of the movie when Sally and Jack realize that they were meant to be. The song/poem's lyrics are as follows:

My dearest friend, if you don't mind,
I'd like to join you by your side.
Where we can gaze into the stars,
And sit together, now and forever.
For it is plain, as anyone can see,
We're simply meant to be.

First dance - Dancing Cheek to Cheek, by Frank Sinatra (did I spell 'cheek' right?). It's a little too fast for a slow dance, but we both have 2 left feet, so we weren't going to be graceful regardless. The store behind that song choice is a while ago (maybe 2+ years ago), Jonathan (for no apparent reason) grabbed me and sang that song to me as we danced around the room, for about 10 seconds.

Isn't he just the cutest?!? I'm sure he's trilled that I shared that story.
